Isaac Adams Project

This is the Adam's Power Printing Press invented and patented by Isaac Adams, and manufactured in Boston by Isaac and his brother Seth Adams. This was the first printing press powered by steam engine to become commercially successful worldwide. The advent of the Adams Power Printing Press provided a huge leap in printing efficiency. Almost immediately it lowered the price of a book from a half-year salary to a half-month salary. Because of the efficiency of this Adams press, books became available to the city masses as well as the rural farmer. One classic example of this parydigm shift in the affordability of print media was witnessed during the 1850's, a time when carpetbaggers distributed religious testaments throughout the bible-belt for less than a dollar a copy. Because this invention made books so affordable it put higher knowledge within reach of the common man. This is the true gift of the Adams Power Press.
